This Peppermint Schnapps hot chocolate recipe has me on a major hot chocolate kick this winter. If you love chocolate, peppermint, and booze I know you will become just as obsessed with this recipe! It may just be my favorite recipe thus far.

What makes this Peppermint schnapps hot chocolate so dang tasty?

Milk chocolate: I’m usually a dark chocolate gal but the milk chocolate in this recipe pairs so perfectly with the peppermint in this recipe. Of course, you can use whatever chocolate you prefer, but I highly recommend milk chocolate!

Peppermint schnapps: The ingredient that stole the show. Peppermint schnapps works so well in this hot chocolate recipe. It has a subtle peppermint flavor without the usual burn of alcohol.

Peppermint extract: I love a pretty strong peppermint flavor so adding the peppermint extract was the perfect amount of flavor for me. You can always leave this ingredient out though if you don’t have it at home or don’t want as much peppermint.

Whole milk: Whole milk gives this recipe the super thick, creamy texture. You can, however, use whichever milk you prefer. This includes dairy free milk!

Substitutions

Whole milk: If you don’t have whole milk on hand, feel free to use whatever milk you want! This recipe will work with any milk.

Milk chocolate: If you want to make this recipe a little less sweet then you can always use semi-sweet or dark chocolate. Feel free to use dairy-free chocolate if you prefer!

Peppermint extract: While you don’t technically need to put this into your hot chocolate, it does add quite a bit of flavor to the hot chocolate. I have found that peppermint schnapps doesn’t provide a strong enough mint flavor. Alternatively, you can melt a candy cane in your hot chocolate to add some extra peppermint flavor!

Okay, but what if I want to make a TON?

This recipe can easy be doubled, tripled, or whatever you’re feeling! Just make sure you use a big enough pot.

Peppermint Schnapps Hot Chocolate

This peppermint schnapps hot chocolate is perfectly boozy, minty, and chocolatey! So delicious!
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk or dairy-free milk
  • 1 Tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Cocoa powder
  • 2 Tablespoons Milk chocolate chips or a milk chocolate bar cut into small chunks
  • 1/4 tsp Peppermint extract Optional, but recommended
  • 1 oz Peppermint Schnapps 1 shot glass
  • 1 whole Candy cane optional
  • Whipped cream Optional

Instructions

  • In a small pot, heat up milk, cocoa powder, and sugar on medium-low heat. Gently stir constantly until the cocoa powder and sugar have dissolved. About 3-5 minutes.
  • Add in chocolate chunks and continue to stir until all the chocolate has melted. Be sure to scrape the chocolate off the bottom of the pot so it all gets incorporated.
  • Pour into a mug and add your shot of peppermint schnapps and peppermint extract. Stir with a candy cane for extra minty flavor.
  • Top with whipped cream and crushed up candy cane for extra decoration!
